Zapped by Zipping

June16

The long weekend in Fiji due to Queen Elizabeth’s birthday meant that we got into doing what we had been waiting for, adventure. Many connoisseur think-tanks pitched in their views, finally we locked the zipping option. Zipping is an adventure sport in which there are cables connected between trees about 30 meters above the ground and one hangs themselves to these and zips through the breathtakingly beautiful rain forest of Fiji through the aerial runway. The canopy is fully inside the jungle at Wainadoi just minutes from Pacific Harbour in the beautiful and mystical Namosi mountains.

Twelve of us on a beautiful Monday morning decided to indulge into it. Some of them had done it earlier and were narrating horrifying stories to scare us. None wanted to show they were scared and everyone behaved like Dharmendra from some evil movie ready to take on the world.

The construction of the zips is what appealed to me at first, not a single ruthless nail being inserted into these ancient huge trees which grow as tall as they can, the taller the mightier is the tacit rule of the rainforest. The eight zip lines were sturdy and an art in their own respect, horizontally measuring a kilometer flying through the fresh pure air, the rivers below, endemic birds, coloruful flowers and unique insects. One can notice all this only if one drops the fear and has an eye to ogle at them along the flyway.Who would bell the cat, who would go first? Without doubt it had to be an eight year old boy, Shamik. For him, the whole thing was as easy as pie, effortlessly effortless and frenzied fun.

I gauged, concentrated, evaluated and when nothing got into me, I surrendered. From platform to platform, we flew across zip lines, “yee-oooohing”, screaming, praying, laughing and the rush of the adrenaline pumping through the veins zipping through sometimes at 60 km/hr. After two rounds I had totally settled and was more interested in the geography of the forest than the mathematics of the zip. Surely do it once.

I wanted to get into the river below which was calling out to me for a long time. Pure cold water, gushing through, always attracts me, and I was the first one to immerse myself and all followed. We went following its path and it had many secret pathways which we discovered. The union with the water continued for more than an hour and then we withdrew due to lack of time. Gorgeous gujrati food was waiting on the banks of the river, all ready to be eaten. I had still not had the most of the river so I found the spot where we could dive into, and with some dives, full satisfaction dawned.

I got smitten with the forest landscape, piously pure yet wondrously wild. Waiting for more.

The value of the Spirit…a letter to the Media.

June9

A life’s work of sacrifice, dispassion and sweat have these great men like Sri Sri Ravishankar worked to raise the human spirit, not for self pride and least for glory but to remind man of his forgotten respect in the spirit. They not only share their enlightened qualities but distribute their honor. They live for us, to help us to find us.

The tragedy with the media today is that it has lost that spirit. The spirit which helps man to be what he is. The conflict is between showcasing sensibility or sensationalism, the head or the heart, the wonders of mankind or the war. And the choice you chose is clear. The human heart yearns for synthesis because that is what is worth showing and living. Unity with itself and the nature. Responsibility of the democratic media is in showcasing values which are dear to mankind and to the planet, depicting the truth and leaving the verdict to the heart which is watching it, without sidelining the intelligence of the viewer, in filming something which has its main cast as the human heart, compassion, dignity and sacrifice, which help us to live with the qualities of love, truthfulness, friendship and faith since the journey of life is to find them, to unfold them, to ignite them.

Today the media is slowly yet consciously killing these values. The murder of these values amounts to murder of mankind. And when the last scream of doom will be closing in, there will still be a whisper of hope due to these great men to give back what the world is losing today, the value of the spirit.

PS:- Instead of pouring venom on these mediawallas in their comments section and replicating what they are doing, it is best you forward this letter to all the sites who write ugly and let that be your last browser click on those sites.

The opinions expressed herein are totally my own.

Set it Free

June2

I marvel at the way people usually fall in love with the other people. The first meetings are usually the meetings where we want to find some ‘qualities’ which will make us fall in love. Qualities which are predefined by me as tasteful and convenient. The easier way here is to link the person’s similarities or differences to someone whom ‘I’ already know and love, like ‘my’ son, ‘my’ friend etc etc, because when he falls into the circumference of ‘mine’ then it is easier to love that since it is mine. Making him part of mine will make me possess the love, secure it and will allow me to forgive him if there are mishaps in this love.

So it is not about the democracy of love of how that person actually ‘is’ but it is a dictatorial method of how ‘i’ can see or make him to be. Love which stands on some crutches. But love wants to be free from any supports, handles or strings. It wants to just be. Just exist and live. Love which is just by itself, solitary yet sturdy, independent yet together, intoxicating yet spiritual. As Guruji says “Make the universal personal; it makes you richer, wiser, stronger. Make the personal universal; you will find freedom, compassion, love.” Set it free forever. True love blossoms in such freedom.

A Sole-full Afternoon

May5

I purposefully took a day off here and travelled with Vinay, the pilot for the local South Pacific Airlines to breathtakingly beautiful Natadola Beach, Fiji’s main island on Viti Levu. The picturesque physical landscape extravagantly displaying the beauty of a bride, arose passions of peace and pride in Mother Nature. The garlands made from the oceans, the ornamental jewelry created by the reflection of the sun against the palm-fringed white sands and the earthly perfumes of the blowing breeze, wound a web of magnificent magic that would get one on his knees to take notice, and the flying episodes narrated by Vinay in his distinctive, non-complex style added all the glamour for a vivacious vacation.

The Intercontinental Fiji Golf resort and spa is located at this extravagant locale and boasts of Fijian ambiance and food. It had to be a day of insightful indulgence and irrational relaxation. After diligently admiring the place it was the mahurat for gaining access to the food that they talk about. Fiji is not an expensive place and I find everything pretty inexpensive here. The menu card was a very simple one what we find in a local pav-bhaji outlets in India. But everything stopped till there when the comparison with those outlets are concerned.

The perspicacious waiters would give us all the details about what they could offer on our plate when it came to vegetarian food. Vinay suggested the tropical fruit punch and I was thankful I took it. The local herb here is coriander, and the garlic bread showcased splendid strewing of it. With keen interest I eyed the display of the roasted pumpkin pita wraps, and every bite into those crisply coverings asked for more of them. The al-dente rustic fettucini was well-done and it had taken the soft tomato sauces deep to its heart. The veggies were just rightly done and the dish was very very pretty. It was beautiful. The superfluous gourmet garnish of extra parmesan cheese in the fettucini made an afternoon stunning and the stomach solely-full.

The Joys of Fiji

April28

The past few days passed away with me eyeing the ocean, soaking my feet into it or sitting on a rock extending into the ocean giving a new meaning to the word alone, yet not indulging into it. And today after the wet knowledge session I had to immerse myself into the ocean, it was all decided and planned. Even though we were late and the bright morning sun shamelessly glazed at us, we had made up our minds.

The beach resort which slopes into the sea is a breathtakingly beautiful island and the white sand and blue see through waters were an invite no one could have resisted. I was all dressed for it. Ramit, Rambha, Praveena wanted this to happen today for me as I kept telling them to take me somewhere other than work (which I have yet not started) :)

The ocean just goes. For me it starts from here where I am and ends at the horizon, but I know it is a part of a much bigger plan. It is huge, gigantic, calm and sincere as of now. But it can take shades of rage and rile and create a texture of destruction on its horizon. Like the Guru it knows how to draw faith in the human if not with love then surely with the shades of love.

I enter, and it feels great. There are few people but otherwise it is a very personal island and the few people also leave and it is left secluded for us. The touch and taste of the blue clear, still, warm ocean water screams messages of excitement within me. I swim, swim and taste the salty water. And yes no sharks swam past me, or ate someone up as you are hoping to read :) The morning day closed with a nice swim and an intro talk with some ladies here while I wait for my first Yes+ talk here later in the day. I have discovered the joys of Fiji - The massive blue Ocean.

PS:- The first pic is from the aircraft when the night in no time had turned into day. And the last pic if seen clearly you will be able to see the fishes fearlessly swimming.

Traveling, traveling & traveling

April5

Have been incessantly traveling for the past few days covering the length and breadth of UttarPradesh teaching and eating some irresistibly delicious food. With the Sun Lord reining supreme in the early days of April, none of us would want to know whats hot in the coming months that India will witness! Have been carrying my bottle of chilled Glucon-D Nimbu Pani flavor which Vrinda introduced me into and since then has become part and parcel of my taste buds and energy.

The organising team at Meerut rolled up one more course up their sleeves in such a short time and introducing it at the Subharti University.  The team is an enthusiastic pack of volunteers ready to make things happen at lightening speed. I like it. It concluded with some delicious Asparagus sandwiches wrapped in lettuce and spicy masala alloo served in home made tarts along with the seasons first alphonso mangoes. I attacked all of them in an entirely unAOL teacher manner, wishing that no one was watching :)

The team gets bigger and stronger with many more cities to be covered in UP and MP and we penetrating deeply into more colleges. Watch this space for more !

Orchestrating an afternoon meal

February20

The beautiful couple of Meerut, Anurag and Monica organized the first Campus Yes+ here and hosted me at their cosy cottage. The stay became mesmerizing with a Guru Pooja attended by the Meerut teachers and the enigmatic ensemble of food which was produed by Sujatha ji.

Her careful composition of hand grown veggies made a new constitution in the symphony of salivitating food. The performers had taken center stage and the music produced by each one of them sizzled my senses. The Mexican tacos (the outer layers of which were composed and directed at home), the potato salad stringed with the mayonnaise, the fresh veggie salad which delivered tangi-ness to the tongue harmonized with softness, the masala idli, the beetroot uttapam clicking the right tones and octaves, and finally the strawberry tarts (the outer covering completely done at home) orchestrating the final notes.

What an afternoon, I overate after overeating  :)

Be Yourself

February18

Am Not sure if Guruji had said this in a satsang, if yes, you can certify it for me.

A plum once said, just because a banana lover came by, I converted myself into a banana. Unfortunately, his taste changed after a few months and so I became an orange. When he said I was bitter I became an apple, but he went in search of grapes. Yielding to the opinions of so many people, I have changed so many times that I no more know who I am.

How I wish I had remained a plum and waited for a plum lover.

Just because a group of people do not accept you as you are, there is no necessity for you to strip yourself of your originality. You need to think good of yourself, for the world takes you at your own estimate.

Never stoop down in order to gain recognition. Never let go of your true self to win a relationship. In the long run, you will regret that you traded your greatest glory - your uniqueness, for momentary validation. Even Gandhi was not accepted by many people. The group that does not accept you as you is not your world.

There is a world for each one of you, where you shall reign as king /queen by just being yourself. Find that world… in fact, that world will find you.

What water can do, gasoline cannot and what copper can, gold cannot.

The fragility of the ant enables it to move and the rigidity of the tree enables it to stay rooted. Everything and everybody has been designed with a proportion of uniqueness to serve a purpose that we can fulfill only by being our unique self. You as you alone can serve your purpose and I as I alone can serve my purpose. You are here to be you… just you.

Consequential Change in Korea ?

November4

Korea is sprinting to become the quintessential capital in quality and economics, of the world, the destination is unknown, the goal undecided, the vision blurred. A virulent attack of impatience has taken over her and she needs to relax, contemplate and re-invent her techniques to succeed bringing her back in the bounds of prudence and patience.

The breathless struggle is of being known, of establishing an identity of oneself in this whimsical world but the stakes are very high, of exiling oneself from oneself. I did stop a guy at the Subway station, me dressed in crisp white Kurta-pyjama and questioned him about his detrimental race. With a quizzical look, spat came the reply “Everone is doing it”.

The ones who took the AOL course got a chance to look into their passionate love affair with life and other peoples greed, and debate it, if it is at the calamitous cost of divorcing oneself. What you want to become can become a reality if one peacefully dwells and walks with what you are at present. Embracing the one you are and finding the one you want to become - they walk together silently and inject colossal change with calmness.

The ceremonial red pepper sauce in her Khim chi has made her enzymatic action endeavoring and Korea needs consequential change - change from within.

Ps:- I wind up Korea this weekend when the weather has become crisp and delicious :)

Changing all the time !

October21

I was just learning some words of Korean and was surprised how my mind would want to compare it with Hindi or English. It was so difficult for the mind to stand independent, alone, by itself. Learn without leaning on the crutches of the learnt. Later when I thought about it, it was so similar to the way we look at life. Our deep-rooted impressions have formed a penchant to events or an aversion towards them. An impression is a feeling. And a feeling needs to be thrown in the garbage where it belongs, to experience the newness, to experience life as it is. The misery is because we have already decided the flow chart of life, the patterns of how it should be, or how it should not be! Life is in the present, as it stands, today. Right now. Changing, all the time.

PS:- The picture I selected since it has the buds which depict the future and a flower which has faded away which is the past, but it is amazingly beautiful with the petals of the present.

Guruji at Seoul - Part 1

October15

The last three days rolled away languidly yet with lightning speed. Yes it is paradoxical. It all started on a somnolent winter day with the wait at the Seoul Airport which is cut away from the city, yet at 5.00 am there were thirty rifling eyes for a glance of divinity. People from China, India, Korea, Dubai, Singapore and Russia had assembled with one mission in their hearts and minds - Guruji. The cynosure of their lives. Their lives were transformed and their convivial smiles echoed the transformation within. We waited. Doing Nothing. Shaking hands with the same people again and again and introducing useless conversations for time to elapse. For a glance. For a chance. And then it happyned. From across the sloppily shaded glass shields we all could see the white robes approaching, slow yet steady, sprirts marveled, hearts thumped and life suddenly awakened.

The arrival of Guruji is like a change in seasons where there are so many transformations in the environment. The environment of the minds had already changed with just one glance of love, that one twinkle, that one hug, and that One presence. An observation which continued till the end of His trip was that  people who do not know Him also unwind an unpretentious smile, feel the love He radiates, absorb the peace which He pierces through the facades of distressing disturbances in the world. It was real. It was all Happyning in Seoul. The wait is over :)
